Everyday is a Vacation with “Ready for the Rum” the New Single from Ralph Curtis
How do you feel about impulse buys? To be honest, they are not my thing. I like to research, try things on, and take things for a test drive before I decide on something. However, that was not the case with country music artist Ralph Curtis. I know it sounds crazy, but I spend a month or two getting to know an artist before I bring them into the Southern Fellow family. I took a leap of faith with Ralph, and boy, did it pay off. Ralph is now one of the best guys I know, and His latest single, “Ready for the Rum,” has me feeling his future is brighter than a Key West sunrise.
First, it has been a pleasure getting to know Ralph Curtis. It’s been a couple of months since first contact. However, after a show and a conversation over tacos later, I can easily say he is one of the best people I know, both on and off the stage. Being a decent human has always been paramount with the artists I feature, but “Ready for the Rum” is what landed Ralph this review.
To be honest, I didn’t get it at first. “Ready for the Rum” felt too basic. With song reviews, you are constantly trying to put things in a box. Ralph’s latest single didn’t feel it fit any specific genre, at least not entirely. It wasn’t until I stopped trying to stuff it in a box that I really appreciated the track. After playing the song the second time, I became relaxed, and life started to feel simple. After the third play, I felt like I had overpacked for a vacation. All I needed was a pair of shorts, a shirt, and a glass just big enough to hold two fingers of gold rum with a few ice cubes. Anything more than those few things would be a distraction. So my advice to you is don’t get distracted. “Ready for the Rum” is as close to a vacation as a song will ever take you.
Just like I took a gamble on Ralph, he is willing to do so with his music. So far, it’s paid off. “Ready for the Rum” is a prime example of that. His latest single may not fit in a box, but this time, I feel that’s a good thing. Regardless of your music preference, many of you will like this song. I think we can all agree that’s a good thing.
