Our interview with
JessLee
Patrick L.
As I get older there become fewer things that surprise me. Scary movies to roller coasters have lost their excitement due to their easy predictability. This also relates to the people I contact on a daily basis. I almost feel like I could write their daily story. However, even with all this, there are what appear to be small variations to the status quo that shake you and make you look at the world again with new eyes. They bring you back to looking at the world in a new way. This is exactly what happened when I met our next artist on Feed the Band.
JessLee can seem pretty intimidating at first glance. She is an accomplished bodybuilder and has a confident way about her when she speaks. So when we had a first conversation I prepared myself for someone who was going to be pretty prepared to do battle as far as interviews go. I just knew JessLee was going to give me 4 or 5 bullet points that some publicist had written and not venture far from that. She was basically going to reread her website bio to me. That was not anywhere near the case.
JessLee was open about her life, music and dreams, but my surprise did not stop there. We actually connected. Only a few minutes in conversation and JessLee felt like a good friend I have not seen in a few years. It felt like we were playing catch up to a previous conversation. The problem was that this was the first time we have met. So how could this connection exist? I started to reflect on how different our lives appeared on the surface. I am by no means a body builder, singer or even female for that matter. It was after our interview that I stepped back and took a look at the whole picture. Our connection was passion (not the romance novel kind). We are passionate about what we do and the people we connect with. There were some things we did not have in common, but that truly lacked in importance. We had the same fire; that passion that formed the weld that connected us.
Two things that we did connect on was good music and Italian food. The food we will talk about later in our featured recipe. JessLee’s passion for her music is undeniable. Her powerful vocal and songwriting can hit you like a hurricane, which is funny because these same skills are reflected in her latest single, which happens to be titled “Hurricane”. JessLee has so much more music on the horizon. I am looking forward to every song. JessLee will be a force to be reckoned with.
Let’s get to the interview. JessLee was such a pleasure to chat with. Check out our giveaway at the bottom. Also try the delicious Italian recipe she inspired. Here is our interview with the beautiful JessLee.
Tell us about your road to Nashville.
My road to Nashville was somewhat unexpected. I started visiting Nashville around late 2015 after releasing my first EP: “Just a Kiss”. I was scheduling meetings and co-writes trying to acclimate myself into the city and make as many relationships as possible. Over time, I fell more and more in love with the town and people and after releasing more music and my season on NBC The Voice, I felt like there was enough established for me to make the official move!
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
I think I’d have to be “Ultra Violet” because, one, purple is my favorite color and two, I am usually bright and vibrant in a crowd!
If you could not play music, what do you think you would be doing?
If I could not play music (God forbid) the next best thing would be pursuing a career in health and fitness! I love lifting weights! Fun fact about me is I used to compete in figure competitions!
What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear would be feeling like I lived purposelessly. I really have a passion to do something really moving for the world with my music and platform.
We are always developing recipes here at Southern Fellow; when writing music, what recipe do you use?
LOVE this question! I would say I’m a sucker for a catchy hook and melody! I’m always building around the hook!
What’s the most interesting thing about you that people may not know?
I’d say that a fun random fact about me that I don’t get a chance to talk about much is that I have played tennis since I was 3. At one point I was ranked 14th in the state of Florida for girl’s singles.

What is your first fond memory of food?
My most memorable and delicious cuisine experience was when I was traveling in Europe! I had carbonara, squid and cannolis in Italy, Gyros, Greek salad with extra Olives and baklava in Greece, the most amazing street donut balls in Croatia and an outstanding pizza in Montenegro!
If you wrote a song about food, what would it be about?
I would definitely write a song about pizza for dinner and donuts for dessert, haha!
What does the coming year look like for you?
This coming year has started off as an adventure full of new beginnings with my move and it’s filled with so much including:
- My new single “Over Him” dropping in June
- The “Over Him” music video dropping in June as well.
- Touring around the country
- Recording my new EP!
- Writing with MMG … and so much more! So connect with me to stay tuned!
If you were queen for the day, what would you try to achieve?
What greatness can really be done in only a day?! … I would have so much I’d love to do if I had more time but since it’s just a day, I’d try and make everyone feel as much love as possible while I ruled.
Your new single “Hurricane” has a huge sound. Tell us how that song came to be.
Thank you so much! And Hurricane was written by myself and the amazing Steve Virginia! I called him up one day with the chorus already written because I was inspired by a rainy, stormy day in FL. He loved it and wanted to finish the song with me!

If you found a $100 winning lottery ticket what would you buy?
I would definitely purchase something cool for my show or more music gear!
What advice would you give your past self?
Advice that I would give to a younger me is to be more present! To really soak up the now because it’s really all you ever have.
