Lance Carpenter Celebrates Everyone Who Has Dreamed from a Barstool with “I Bought a Bar”
Have you ever sat on a barstool at your local bar and asked yourself, “What if this was mine”? I know I have entertained the idea a time or two. We are not alone in this. Hit country artists are buying up places on Broadway in Nashville at rates never seen before. But, for us regular people, seeing our name in neon lights might only be a dream, and that’s ok. We can dream on with Lance Carpenter’s latest single, “I Bought a Bar”.
Believe it or not, I had no desire to get into the bar business as a chef. It wasn’t until I started Southern Fellow that I even entertained the idea. I was looking for a local venue to host some of our shows. So I went back to my old stomping grounds. The Rockin’ Ranch was a hot place back in the day, and I looked forward to reliving those fun times. After the first show, I thought about how great it would be if I had my own place. I dreamed about bar food menus, ladies’ night, and having any band I wanted to play. Unfortunately, this shiny new dream started to tarnish after our third showcase.
After a few months, I started helping out around the Ranch. I worked the door, tended bar, and one day I had to fill in as the manager. The Rockin’ Ranch is not a wild place. However, the night I was in charge was the exception. I had to remove three people, and an unruly wedding party dropped beer bottles everywhere. To top everything off, I was short a bartender. On my way home at four in the morning, I told myself that owning a bar should remain a dream.
Lance Carpenter had Blake Shelton and other country artists who own bars in mind while writing “I Bought a Bar”. However, I think this single has a place for us local barstool celebrities. It gives us three minutes to live out that dream. We may be giving up our name in neon, but being able to go home before the sun comes up, getting fewer black eyes, and not having to clean up someone else’s mess makes up for it.
