Lucy Spotts Hits the Spot with “Fishin’ Spot”
Who wants to see something new and shiny? Well, in our case, it’s listening to something new. I don’t traditionally cover new artists without some substantial research and a chat or two. That said, in a few short hours, Lucy Spotts reeled me in, and now I’m hooked. Her brand new single “Fishin’ Spot” is a catch, and I’m excited for what’s to come from this fairly unknown artist in New Smyrna Beach, Fl.
One thing I love about Lucy Spotts is that she’s her own woman. At only 20, she is very aware of who she is and has a good internal compass. “Fishin’ Spot,” however, had me scratching my head. It’s an outstanding song for reasons I’ll get into shortly, but the source is somewhat surprising. At least it was for me.
Lucy’s single is as country as it gets today. Yet, this blonde-haired beach queen looks like she traded boots for bikinis and a fancy gem-studded belt for a surfboard leash. However, being a wave rider is who she has always been. So all this raises the question, “Where the heck did “Fishin’ Spot” come from?”
The short answer is you a take a good songwriter who mixes a hobby with a story, and BOOM!, you have a good song. “Fishin’ Spot” checks off many boxes that make a country song good. Heartbreak, fishing, and revenge are solid topics. Yet, it’s what is behind the lyrics that I feel nudges this song from good to great. If you peel off the songwriter layer of Lucy Spotts, you’ll find that she has many wholesome qualities and always approaches others with kindness. Lucy uses these core values as a backdrop for her music. This background connects her with fans at deeper level leaving them more emotionally involved with a song. Heartbroken or in love, you will feel a little more because you like who Lucy Spotts is as a person.
